All the talk about Facebook screwing up their IPO is making me develop an eye twitch. Since when do companies hit NASDAQ at 26x their value anyway. Never! It would seem the only people who invested were people looking to make a quick buck and now they’re crying about a few filing issues. Seriously… Short term investments are risky, you know that! And if you don’t, you shouldn’t be investing. But Facebook thanks you for your money nonetheless. Can’t wait to see what’s The “Zuk” comes up with next!

    Klout perks are kinda gross.

Getting paid for being popular is awesome, right?

So Klout Perk recipients, does it feel good to be hounded on a daily basis by people trying to get noticed by you, wanting you to engage with them in one or two tweets so their own Klout score may improve? Do thoughts of these social newbies/climbers who look at you in wonderment because “Wow, you have so many followers” have you bounding out of bed in the morning?

Little do they know all the time you’ve spent hustling networks and sharing others content in seemingly valuable fashion, herding them unknowingly through your crappy jump page/ad network mess, and kissing an unbelievable amount of social tush.

Have you sold your social soul to get some popcorn from Klout?  I hope it was yummy.

I changed my mind, Klout Perks aren’t gross, the people who try to earn Klout Perks are. Those that obtain them and are unaware give me hope that “Social Media Guru’s” won’t continue to pee in our pool and cloud the social waters forever.

I agree I got a Lout account long ago thinking it would be a cool tool to provide additional analytics as it’s billed. Over time I watched others I knew become members and the numbers Klout was scoring didn’t seem to match what I was experiencing in the real world. I never really played their game and that seemed to affect their score more than anything. I realized it was more about self promotion and promoting Klout itself than it was assessing useful numbers of reach and influence.

Exactly. It’s all a game and very political. SalesForce.com now owns Klout and a huge Web Web Monitoring Company named Radian6. I have to wonder if they are trying to corner the market on monitoring and social lead generation and scoring. By training people how to tailor and submit content in order to earn Klout…then selling their SalesForce.com customers on leads that have higher Klout scored or “influence” on the front end. That’s a small piece of a conspiracy theory anyway. You can make your own assessment.

I'm Real, What You Read is What You Get…

Ok, so I’m watching MTV this morning and low and behold there were music videos being shown.  Imagine that!  There was one video that particularly caught my attention containing a phrase that triggered this post.  It came from  J-Lo’s video for “I’m Real”.

It seems to me that there are far too many people today who don’t know what being “Real” means.

I like to consider myself a real person and I like to “tell it like it is” whenever possible.  Some people may see this as a negative.  I see it as being realistic and to me, being realistic is a positive.

In the workplace, we have fewer and fewer resources at our disposal  due to today’s economy.  Should I mince words or hold back opinions and possibly waste precious time and money to save from hurting someone’s feelings?  I think not.  What do you think?

There are some in my personal and professional life that may not like my dose of reality and maybe they are insecure; who knows.  Maybe they just think I’m mean.  Between you and me, I’d rather be thought of as mean than insecure or even worse (shiver) incapable.

If you give me criticism I can take it.  I’ll admit when I”m wrong and will change my stance on something based on another persons arguments at times.  I’m not hard-headed, but I do have strong beliefs.  I will also be the first to admit I’ve got a lot to learn.  Don’t we all?

To me, being real includes a few of the things I’ve listed below

    Being…

    • Aware of yourself and others
    • Responsible
    • Human
    • Cordial to people regardless of their title, status, social network and of if they can “help” you
    • Etc…you get the gist

Please leave your comments telling us what you think being real means and shake a fist for reality!

    What's this all about?

You might think by the title that this will be an angst ridden and negative blog.  I can say that at times the posts may seem negative or full of angst, however I can also tell you that this is not the objective of the blog.  I wanted to give myself and others the ability to voice their opinions and experiences on things going on in the world and our personal and professional lives.

If you would like to be part of our blog, please leave a comment letting me know.

I will be sharing things that I hope resonate with you and will ask that you share your thoughts and feelings on them.  I don’t expect you to always agree, in fact I encourage a difference in opinion.
